| It's been 84 years... and I can still smell the fresh paint. The china had never been used. The sheets had never been slept in. Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams. And it was. It really was... | ![]() |
![]() | The LIVERIED DRIVER scurries to open the door for a young woman
dressed in a stunning white and purple outfit, with an enormous feathered
hat. She is 17 years old and beautiful, regal of bearing, with piercing
eyes. It is the girl in the drawing. ROSE. She looks up at the ship, taking
it in with cool appraisal.
Rose: I don't see what all the fuss is about. It doesn't look any bigger than the Mauretania. Cal: Your daughter is much too hard to impress,Ruth |
| Just inside a nearby bar, a poker game is in progress. Four men, in working class clothes, play a very serious hand. Jack, a 20 years old artist places a lucky bet and gets him and his friend, Fabrizio tickets on board the Titanic. | ![]() |
![]() | AT THE BOW OF THE TITANIC Jack and Fabrizio lean far over,
looking down. In the glassy bow-wave two dolphins appear, under the
water, running fast just in front of the steel blade of the prow. They do it
for the sheer joy and exultation of motion. Jack watches the dolphins and
grins. They breach, jumping clear of the water and then dive back,
crisscrossing in front of the bow, dancing ahead of the juggernaut.
Jack: I'm the KING of the world!!! |
| Rose: I saw my whole life as if I'd already lived it... an endless parade of parties and cotillions, yachts and polo matches... always the same narrow people, the same mindless chatter I felt like I was standing at a great precipice, with no one to pull me back, no one who cared... or even noticed. | ![]() |
![]() | A frantic Rose runs to the bow of Titanic. Her breath hitches in an
occasional sob, which she suppresses. Panting, Rose climbs up onto the
railings and attempts to jump into the bitter cold Atlantic Ocean. Jack
tries to persuade her otherwise.
Jack: I'm not looking forward to jumping in after you. But like I said, I don't see a choice. I guess I'm kinda hoping you'll come back over the rail and get me off the hook here. Jack saves Rose from her compulsive attempt for suicide. Cal invites Jack to dine with the first class guests, in return. |
| In Rose's bedroom
Cal: I know you've been melancholy, and I don't pretend to know why. I intend to save this till the engagement gals next week. But I thought tonight, perhaps a reminder of my feeling for you ... Rose: My God... Cal. Is it a- Cal: Diamond. Yes it is. 56 carats. It was once worn by Louis the Sixteenth. They call it Le Coeur de la Mer. It's for royalty. And we are royalty. Open your heart to me, Rose. | ![]() |
![]() | The next day, Rose goes to the deck of the boat to
look for Jack. They introduce themselves and
engage in a casual conversation.
Rose: It was my whole world and all the people in it. And the inertia of my life. Plunging ahead and me powerless to stop it. |
